1. TDE Mobile Adventure: Nedime - The Caliph's Daughter

The Dark EyeOn November, 14th, The Dark Eye, the most successful German role-playing game (published in the US by FanPro LLC), hits Java-enabled cell phones worldwide!

This endeavor is a cooperation between Chromatrix (contents, game design) and elkware (publication).

The Caliph's DaughterWelcome to the world of The Dark Eye. This adventure takes you right into the mysterious palace of sultan Hasrabal, who has abducted and imprisoned the beautiful daughter of the Caliph. It is up to you to help Nedime in her time of dire need!

Of course, only a true hero is up to the task. You may choose your very own such character to play the game. You pick from a list of 14 archetypes, decide on a name – and here's your hero, all set to go. In the course of his adventures, your hero earns Adventure Points, which you may use to increase Attributes and Talents. You may also exchange treasure found during your adventures for better armor or better weapons. Thus, you turn your hero step by step into one of the most unique personalities in the world of The Dark Eye. Once you have finished an adventure, you may save your hero onto a special server – for free! – to use in future adventures.

The fantastic game world of The Dark Eye (TDE) has been going strong with German players since 1984. TDE is Germany's most successful role-playing game ever, played by several hundred thousands of gamers. The American version of the Core Rules were finally published last year, with lots of new product in the wings. The games rules, as well as the detailed description of the game world, offer a tremendous amount of role-playing possibilities. And yet, you do not even have to know a single rule to explore this world in this cell phone adventure! We have tried to be as faithful as possible to the rules, right down to the basic mechanisms of resolving actions with dice rolls (especially of 20-sided dice).

Detail of the original Print Cover"Nedime – The Caliph's Daughter" was the very first solo adventure ever published for the German version of the game, as far back as 1984. The author, Ulrich Kiesow, is also the man who created the entire game world of The Dark Eye. The adventure was translated by the same man who also translated the TDE Core Rules, thus ensuing maximum compatibility.

The adventure was thoroughly edited to bring it into line with the current version of the rules, as published by FanPro LLC. We also had to take into account the peculiarities and limitations of cell phone technology. One of the most important aspects of the game is that players have access to a lot of different maneuvers in combat. Besides attacking and parrying, there are, for instance, called attacks or feints. Of course, it does make a difference which weapon your hero uses or which type of armor he is wearing. What's more – before you decide to sneak past a dozing guard, make sure to check up on your Talent Value listings first, for the dice generator is impartial and does not allow for cheating! We have of course also implemented an auto-save feature, allowing you to savor the adventure in several sessions.

There are more adventures to come, which you may either play through with the same hero (improving his characteristics as you play), or for which you may create different heroes.

To play, you need a cell phone with J2ME standard. The adventures support both color and black and white displays. See the download area to find out if your cell phone is compatible.

You will find much more information about TDE Mobile adventures on our special TDE Mobile pages.
